Shark Detection Buoy Deployment
Watch as UNE assistant professor John Mohan and his students deploy a real-time shark detection buoy in the waters off UNE’s coastal Biddeford Campus. The solar-powered buoy can detect tagged great white sharks as they make their way toward the shore and send a notice to lifeguards in real time to alert swimmers. The project is a win-win for both researchers studying shark populations and the state’s eager summertime beachgoers.
Rising inflation, political polarization, and economic disparity; the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic and the war in Ukraine; and continued emergence of social justice issues. As society becomes increasingly chaotic and divided, UNE faculty, administration, and professional staff must answer the question, “How do we prepare students to succeed in a fractured society?”
